iPhone betting in New Zealand: 2026 guide
Reviewed 25 September 2026. An iPhone app or Safari site can display sports betting or online casino games, but the device does not change the legal status of the operator. Check which product is offered before registering.
Sports and racing bets
Since 28 June 2025, DIA says TAB NZ is the only operator permitted to offer racing and sports bets to people in New Zealand. An app on the App Store or an overseas licence is not proof of permission to offer NZ sports betting. See our TAB NZ guide.
Online casino games
Online casino licences follow a separate staged process. DIA expects first licences in early 2027, with a cap of up to 15. No operator should be described as holding a New Zealand online casino licence in September 2026 without a current regulator record. The 2026 regulations set verification and payment requirements for licensed casino operators; they do not guarantee that a particular iPhone app accepts Apple Pay or uses Face ID.
App or browser?
An app may offer saved login or device authentication; Safari avoids installing software. Neither option guarantees safer terms, faster withdrawals or better odds. Confirm the publisher or web domain, read payment and privacy terms, enable account security features where available, and check the operator rather than relying on the app-store badge.
Payment and safer play
A digital wallet can be funded by different sources. Do not assume that the wallet name alone proves compliance with licensed casino payment restrictions. Set a spending limit before playing and turn off promotional notifications if helpful. For support, visit Safer Gambling NZ or call 0800 654 655.
