NBA betting in New Zealand: 2026 rules and markets

New Zealand provider rule
Since 28 June 2025, DIA says TAB NZ is the only betting operator permitted to provide racing and sports bets to people in New Zealand. The relevant law is the Racing Industry Amendment Act 2025. This applies to offers made from overseas as well as domestic offers. Confirm the provider and its current market terms.
The separate online casino regime has up to 15 licences available through an auction and application process. DIA’s timetable expects casino licences from early 2027. No NZ online casino licences have been issued under that process as at this review, and a casino licence will not authorise NBA betting.
How NBA markets work
- Moneyline: select the team that wins the game under the provider’s settlement rules. Check whether overtime counts.
- Point spread: the selected team must beat the stated handicap after it is applied to the final score.
- Game total: select above or below a stated combined points line; check the treatment of overtime.
- Player proposition: a statistic such as points or rebounds for a named player. Check participation thresholds, void rules and official-stat corrections.
- In-play: quotes can change or suspend quickly. Review the accepted price and stake before confirming.
Availability and settlement vary by market. Check official injury reports, starting lineups, rest days and the rules for postponements. A multi-selection bet compounds the chance that one incorrect selection loses the whole wager. Do not describe a promotion or payout as current without checking its terms.
Payments and safer betting
Check TAB NZ’s current accepted deposit and withdrawal methods, fees and identity checks directly. Do not apply casino credit-card restrictions or offshore casino duty to all basketball bets.
