Financial Safety in New Zealand Online Gambling
Before depositing with an online gambling operator, check who operates the site, which rules apply to that product, and how payments and disputes are handled. New Zealand’s online casino licensing framework is being implemented in stages; a payment logo, security badge or offshore licence is not proof of a current NZ online casino licence. Sports and racing betting have a separate framework, with TAB NZ the sole permitted provider under the rules effective 28 June 2025.
Check the operator and payment terms
- Confirm the operator’s identity and current regulatory status using the Department of Internal Affairs information.
- Read the cashier’s actual deposit and withdrawal methods, fees, limits, verification requirements and dispute process.
- Do not assume deposits are held in segregated accounts, insured, or guaranteed if the operator has not supplied verifiable terms.
- Keep copies of the terms and transactions you relied on.
Credit, identity and withdrawal checks
The enacted online casino law and regulations set requirements for licensed operators, including restrictions on credit, but implementation dates and the distinction between casino and sports products matter. Do not treat every offshore site or betting product as already licensed under the same rules. Read our credit guide and identity-check guide for the relevant framework.
Withdrawal timing depends on the operator’s terms, method and verification. There is no universal 24–48 hour payout promise. Contact the operator through its published complaint channel if a payment is delayed, and retain the case reference.
